　 北海道から九州，石の下や海藻の間に多く見られる（岡田ら 1965）． 日本海および南シナ海に分布，第二次大戦以降 日本産カキなどに混ざってサンフランシスコ湾， 南カリフォルニアなどに移入した（Bousfield Hoover 1997）．

　 蒲生干潟ではオゴノリを食害（Aikins Kikuchi 2004）．
